Surprisingly, cooking hamburger patties in an air fryer is not only possible but also incredibly effective. We’ve become such fans that we now prefer cooking our pre-packaged hamburger patties in the air fryer.
For this recipe, we’ve chosen pre-packaged patties from grass-fed, grass-finished beef. If you’re making your own patties from scratch, you can follow these same easy steps.
Making hamburgers is a weekly tradition in our house because they’re a quick and satisfying meal everyone loves. That’s why we always keep a stock of 1-2 extra packages in the freezer.
Frying patties in a pan used to be a hassle for me. No matter how much I aired out the kitchen, the smell would linger, and cleaning up the grease splatter was a chore.
But with the air fryer, those issues are gone. There’s no smell, no mess, and the cleanup is a breeze since the air fryer tray is dishwasher safe.
Another perk? No need to flip the patties, and cooking them to the desired doneness is a breeze.
We preheat our Cosori air fryer and cook the patties at 400 degrees F (200-205 C) for 8 minutes. This gets them perfectly cooked—no longer pink in the middle but not overdone. If you prefer your burgers completely well-done, just leave them in for an extra 2 minutes, or reduce the time by 1-2 minutes for a medium cook.
Air Fryer Hamburger Cooking Tips
- Season the patties with salt and pepper, just like you would for pan-frying.
- For thicker patties, add an extra 1-2 minutes to the cooking time. Our standard patties are about 0.5 inches thick.
- No need to add oil.
- No need to flip during cooking.
For a gluten-free option, wrap the patties in Iceberg lettuce leaves and add your favorite toppings like sauces, pickles, and onions, mimicking a traditional bun.
