Cooking rice in an air fryer isn’t just possible—it can yield results as good as any rice cooker. Despite some opinions that air fryer rice can end up hard, I’ve perfected a technique that guarantees soft, flavorful rice every time.
At our house, this rice is a hit! My daughter even commented that it tastes more like ‘rice’ than it usually does. The grains preserve their texture beautifully, becoming perfectly tender without turning to mush.
For this method, you’ll need a couple of additional tools: something like a silicone bowl or a heat-resistant dish that fits in your air fryer. I didn’t have any special accessories, so I used a small silicone cake mold, which worked great thanks to its rim that keeps everything tidy.
Don’t forget the aluminum foil. Cover your dish tightly with foil to trap in the steam, ensuring every grain of rice cooks through.
We typically use basmati rice, but feel free to try other varieties—I’m confident they’d turn out just as well, especially if you let them sit covered for a few extra minutes after cooking.
Essential Tips for Air Fryer Rice
Be cautious with silicone bowls; they can get hot!
