Cooking sweet potato cubes in an air fryer is incredibly easy. We were thrilled with how delicious they turned out, and they were such a hit that we could barely fry them fast enough for our family!
These sweet potato cubes are perfect to eat right after they’re cooked. They’re wonderful by themselves or as a complement to roasted meats and fresh salads.
Sweet potatoes are readily available in most stores or markets, and you’ll find a variety of types. We’ve noticed the yellow-skinned sweet potatoes are slightly sweeter and a tad more watery than their pinkish-brown counterparts, but either type works beautifully in this recipe.
Tips for Frying Sweet Potato Cubes
- Peeling sweet potatoes is a breeze, especially with a sharp knife.
- You can cut the cubes smaller or larger; just remember to adjust the cooking time by an extra 2-3 minutes for larger cubes.
- Salt preferences can vary widely, even within a family, so feel free to adjust the amount to your taste. Below is just a guideline.
Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes
Ingredients
- 2 sweet potatoes medium or larger
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tbsp sal
- 1 tbsp black pepper freshly ground, optional
Instructions
- Start by preparing your sweet potatoes.
- Peel the sweet potatoes with a potato peeler or a small paring knife.
- Slice the peeled sweet potatoes into ½-¾ inch or 1.5-2 cm wide slices.
- Next, cut these slices into ½-¾ inch or 1.5-2 cm thick slabs.
- Finally, dice these slabs into ½-¾ inch or 1.5-2 cm cubes.
- Place the cubes in a bowl, and season with salt and optionally black pepper. This step can be skipped if preferred.
- Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil per sweet potato over the cubes, adding a bit more if you like, and mix well.
- Transfer the seasoned sweet potato cubes to the air fryer basket.
- Set the air fryer to 400°F (200-205°C) and cook for 17 minutes.
- After 17 minutes, check the cubes. They should have begun to brown. For more browning, return them to the air fryer for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Serve the sweet potato cubes immediately. They are excellent alone or as a side with roasted meats and a crisp salad.
